Art Nouveau is an artistic movement which appeared at the end of the 19th century and which also influenced the field of jewelry. This style was a rejection of the rigid, symmetrical forms of the Victorian era, and introduced a more natural and expressive aesthetic. Art Nouveau jewelry were often made from materials such as gold, enamel, pearls and semi-precious stones. The most famous jewelers of the Art Nouveau era were René Lalique and Louis Comfort Tiffany, who created iconic pieces of this style. Art Nouveau also influenced the architecture, decorative arts and interior design of the period. This movement was very influential and laid the foundation for Art Deco that followed.
